Singleness, well-being, and the dessert of happiness

The combination of singlehood and well-being redefines everyday pleasure in Mexico and values a form of enjoyment that goes beyond romantic love.
Singles in Mexico: this is what they are really choosing now

In times when phrases like “having a boyfriend is embarrassing, being single is what’s in” become trending on social media, individuality and self-love take on a new meaning.

Being single transforms into an opportunity to talk about well-being, independence, and the pride of enjoying life without a partner. In Mexico, this conversation resonates more and more: being single is no longer a transition, but a choice that is lived with satisfaction and authenticity. It is not a passing stage or a lack of companionship, but a conscious option that many people live with full satisfaction.

Data from INEGI shows that approximately 68.7% of young people aged 15 to 29 are single (neither married nor in a common-law relationship). In urban areas, satisfaction with being single averages 8.4/10, and nearly half of respondents report scores of 9 or 10. This reflects a growing trend towards emotional autonomy.

But everyday happiness is also reflected in simple and pleasurable choices, for example, the consumption of snacks during moments of indulgence. According to Nielsen, the Mexican ice cream market recorded an 11.2% growth in 2024, with sales reaching 129 million liters of packaged ice cream; additionally, according to Kantar, “7 out of 10 households” buy ice cream throughout the year.

Why is this combination of being single + ice cream relevant?

Because in Mexico, personal well-being is expressed not only in big decisions but also in a space for personal taste and the small rituals that enhance well-being. Being single can mean more time for oneself: a space to enjoy pleasure without guilt and connect with the senses. In that context, ice cream appears as a symbol of indulgence, pause, and instant enjoyment: a dessert easy to share or savor alone. That moment of pause takes on collective meaning: each spoonful can represent “me time,” a toast to oneself.

The Mexican consumer: diverse, proud, and passionate

Mexico is a country of contrasts, where cultural and regional diversity is also reflected in how people live and enjoy their day-to-day lives. Pride in identity, history, and roots drives a very unique way of celebrating the everyday: with authenticity, passion, and a sense of community. In this environment, enjoying small pleasures — like having an ice cream without hurry, whether accompanied or alone — becomes an expression of personal well-being. Because in Mexico, enjoyment doesn’t need an occasion: it is part of our way of living, of indulging ourselves, and of celebrating who we are, even in the simplest moments.
