Karate Kid: A legacy that never dies

Although the series is coming to an end, the spirit of Cobra Kai remains alive, as the iconic motto reminds us: "Cobra Kai never dies". Since its debut in 2018, this continuation of the Karate Kid saga has not only renewed interest in the franchise but also offered a unique blend of nostalgia, humor, action, and drama that has won over both longtime fans and new audiences.

The story has revolved around two lifelong rivals, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), who found unexpected ways to coexist while leading the dojos of Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai. Now, the sixth season, divided into parts, promises an emotionally charged, action-packed, and resolving finale.

The first images of Cobra Kai's final season: what to expect

In the images revealed by Netflix, we see a preview of the key moments that will mark the series' conclusion. A scene stands out where Daniel and Johnny practice together the famous "crane kick stance", an iconic symbol of Miyagi's training. This union suggests that the former rivals have reached a definitive understanding, putting their differences aside to face greater challenges.

The Miyagi-do team formed to compete in the Sekai Taikai

It is also confirmed that the international competition Sekai Taikai, which was left unresolved in episode 10 of season 6, will continue to be the central focus of the final episodes. In this competition, the teams from Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai will have a definitive showdown, while characters like Robby (Tanner Buchanan), Sam (Mary Mouser), Tory (Peyton List), and newcomers Axel (Patrick Luwis) and Zara (Rayna Vallandingham) are ready for action.

What to expect from the end of Cobra Kai?

The creators of the series, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, have promised a conclusion worthy of the phenomenon they built. In a recent interview, Hurwitz described the final episodes as “fun, emotional, tense, action-packed, and surprisingly satisfying”. Schlossberg, for his part, compared the tone of the last chapters to The Empire Strikes Back, stating that this conclusion will lead the narrative to an epic and emotional closure. “The Ewoks will celebrate, and everything will be in order... depending on who you support in the series”, Schlossberg noted, alluding to the type of resolution fans expect.

In the creators' words, the finale will not only close the arcs of the main characters but also leave room for viewers to reflect on the legacy of Karate Kid and the evolution of its protagonists throughout the seasons.

Tory (Payton List) faces Miyagi-do and her dilemma between loyalty to her friends and self-improvement, following her mother's death.

The characters who will star in the finale

The last episodes will feature the return of familiar faces and the addition of new characters that will bring intensity to the plot. Among the highlights, we will see again:

  • Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso.
  • William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence.
  • Tanner Buchanan as Robby.
  • Mary Mouser as Sam LaRusso.
  • Peyton List as Tory Nichols, who is now torn between her loyalties.

Additionally, the participation of Martin Kove as the manipulative John Kreese is expected, whose story still has pending twists. The new images also feature Chozen (Yuji Okumoto), a character who has won fans' affection since his return, as well as Sensei Kim (Alicia Hannah-Kim), whose relationship with Chozen has generated memorable moments in the sixth season.

The Iron Dragons team, tough rivals of Miyagi-Do

On the other hand, the villains from the Iron Dragons dojo, played by Patrick Luwis and Rayna Vallandingham, are positioned as the main rivals in the Sekai Taikai, promising fights filled with tension and spectacle.

A finale in the Valley: guaranteed excitement

The creators have hinted that the final episodes will return to the roots of the series, placing the action once again in the San Fernando Valley, where it all began. The dynamics between Daniel, Johnny, and their students will evolve towards a climax that promises to answer all questions and tie up loose ends from past seasons.

Schlossberg assured that every battle, decision, and dialogue in these final episodes will be filled with meaning. Fans can expect impactful fights, such as one described as a "Braveheart-style karate", and moments of resolution that will celebrate the central themes of the series: redemption, personal growth, and the importance of second chances.

The farewell to a cultural phenomenon

Since its premiere, Cobra Kai has proven to be more than a spin-off; it has revitalized a classic franchise, giving it a fresh and modern approach that has resonated with generations of viewers. Its impact has transcended the screens, influencing pop culture, from references in shows and movies to real-world events.

Although the end of the series may seem bittersweet, the creators have made it clear that the legacy of Cobra Kai never dies. With this conclusion, a chapter closes that has united fans from around the world and renewed the love for Mr. Miyagi's teachings.
